The Budget Reconciliation Act (S. 1932) passed by the House of
Representatives on a vote of 216-214 this afternoon includes fee increases
for various court filings, including bankruptcy filings. The Senate
previously approved the measure and it now goes to the President for his
signature (we expect President Bush to sign the bill into law this week).
The increase is effective 60 days after the bill is signed into law.

The bankruptcy filing fee increases are as follows:

* Chapter 7 is raised from $220 to $245

* Chapter 13 is raised from $150 to $235

Of course, the miscellaneous fees promulgated under 28 U.S.C. 1930 (b) must
be added to these, so the total fee for chapter 7 will become $299 and the
total fee for chapter 13 will become $274.
